More Life Changing Than This Burger

You’ve heard, “getting up on the wrong side of the bed” or “starting off on the right foot” as sayings used to describe a following behavior linked the those one of those sayings as the cause. For years I gave very little thought to either of them because I didn’t understand the weight of impact either could have.

We all have our morning routines that rarely take any thought. We are normally functioning out of a half coherent state of being until our morning coffee or in my case energy drink, start to kick in. Gradually I will feel the cells in my body start to connect and warm up like our auto engines on a cold morning. But what about the other input, like whatever was on my cell phone that morning or what last minute thing did one of my kids hold onto for a week and present to me the morning it was due? There is always potential for getting up on the wrong side of the bed. I will tell you, If I were to literally get up on the wrong side of the bed, I would have to crawl over my wife, which would surely wake her up and you wanna talk about “the wrong side”

We have do have a choice in this matter to start our day off on the right foot, on the right side of the bed. It’s pretty simple, but does take some discipline and maybe getting up 15-20 minutes earlier. When I discovered what meditating would do for starting off on the right foot, it was life changing. Kinda like this burger I’m gonna order at Q39 today that has burnt ends and jalapeños on top along with a whole bunch of other goodness. If you have any aversions to meditating, it’s time to quit tying them to some freaky religious or new age activity. Whatever your beliefs are, they don’t need to be challenged when you meditate. Meditating is simply quieting your mind long enough to allow a peaceful flow of energy in. I breathe in for 3 seconds and breathe out for 5 seconds. Any time my mind wanders, I return to focusing solely on the breathing. Why is this important? It’s like putting on the force field of the Millennium Falcon and jumping into hyperspace. Well, maybe not at first, but the more you do it, the stronger your shield gets and the more chance you have of “starting your day off on the right foot”.

I have heard of people meditating for years. My dad does it. My grandma did when she was alive. But for some reason, it has taken me quite a while to adopt this habit. Mostly, because I’ve always been a doer. “I just need to work harder to get things done” was my disillusioned philosophy. A couple things to note here. The time between waking and meditating can cause you grief if you don’t apply the discipline to not look at any media, phone or anything including interaction with other before you meditate. If you can put those things off until after, in a short period of time, you will begin to experience a new peace, better relationships, better health and a wealth of ideas beginning to flow into your life. If you can find a better and more productive way to spend the first 15 minutes of each day, make sure you email me. Just don’t expect me to read it until after I meditate.
